10 The disciples said to him, "If this is the situation between a husband and wife, it is better not to marry."
11 Jesus replied, "Not everyone can accept this word, but only those to whom it has been given. 12 For some are eunuchs because they were born that way; others have been made eunuchs; and others have renounced marriage because of the kingdom of heaven. The one who can accept this should accept it."
Matthew 19:10-12
I never knew until this morning as I researched the word eunuchs that a eunuch is : “A castrated man employed as a harem attendant or as a functionary in certain Asian courts.” (Dictionary.com) I can’t imagine renouncing marriage and not having the beautiful gift of love that God has so graciously given me in my wife Paula. However, it is clear here that for some people the gift of being single in order that he or she could focus even more on God’s purpose for his or her life has been given. I for one am glad that I have not been given that gift! The bigger point here that Jesus is trying to make is that your relationship with Him should be the number one priority in your life, even above your family relationships. Certain things and certain people in this world will try to distract you from the love of God being carried out in and through your life so whatever you do, please guard against this happening by staying ever so close in prayer and thoughts to Jesus Christ who lives inside of your heart of hearts as a result of your belief in Him. Follow the lead of the Holy Spirit today as you reflect the love of our Savior to a world of people who are in desperate need of Him.
