Evidence of Disbelief

The Pharisees came and began to question Jesus. To test him, they asked him for a sign from heaven. He sighed deeply and said, "Why does this generation ask for a miraculous sign? I tell you the truth, no sign will be given to it.".

Mark 8:11-12

Once again Jesus sighs deeply here at the condition of the Pharisees hearts that is very clear as we examine the question that they asked. Apparently it wasn’t enough to see Jesus feed four thousand people with only seven loaves of bread; it wasn’t enough to see the countless other miracles that Jesus had performed, right in front of their very eyes, no, they were looking for more as a result of their hardened hearts that were very far from God. Jesus, being astutely aware and painfully bothered by the disbelief of the Pharisees does not grant them any other miracles or signs because He knows that without a heart change in the Pharisees His efforts would be in vain. It is interesting that no miracle is ever performed by Jesus where there is evidence of disbelief. In fact, Jesus says in all cases that it is as a result of faith that the blind see, the dead rise, the deaf hear and the oppressed are set free. Do you want God to perform a miracle in your life? If the answer is yes, then you must first surrender your heart to God in such a way that you trust Him completely and that you believe in His omnipotent power and control over your life. As you draw near to God, He will draw near to you. As you walk with Him in faith, you will not need to see a miracle to know that He is God as you will experience His presence in your life and you will hear the whisper of His Spirit in your mind as He guides and directs you into a deeper relationship with Him. Come to Jesus this morning on bended knee, trust in Him with your whole heart today and just watch what He will do!
