God will Provide

By this time it was late in the day, so his disciples came to him. "This is a remote place," they said, "and it's already very late. Send the people away so they can go to the surrounding countryside and villages and buy themselves something to eat." But he answered, "You give them something to eat." They said to him, "That would take eight months of a man's wages! Are we to go and spend that much on bread and give it to them to eat?" "How many loaves do you have?" he asked. "Go and see." When they found out, they said, "Five--and two fish." Then Jesus directed them to have all the people sit down in groups on the green grass. So they sat down in groups of hundreds and fifties. Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves. Then he gave them to his disciples to set before the people. He also divided the two fish among them all. They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces of bread and fish. The number of the men who had eaten was five thousand.

Mark 6:35-44

I almost fell out of my chair this morning as I read the next words of Jesus here in the book of Mark. God’s timing is always so perfect and His shepherding of our hearts in a way that guides and directs us into a trusting relationship with Jesus is ongoing and never-ending and very sweet to the soul. Just this morning, after reading an email, I was frustrated and doubting that God would provide the needed funds for a monthly ministry that I believe in and that my heart is drawn to when God whacks me upside the head with this story as if to say – “Don't you know who I am? If I can feed 5,000 people with 5 loaves of bread and two fish then don’t you think that I can than provide the funds for the ministry that I have placed on your heart?” Why is our faith so fleeting at times and why do we doubt God when He has consistently proven himself to be much bigger than anything that we could ever comprehend?

Father, please forgive us for our disbelief and thank you so much for your provision and your love and your shepherd’s staff of direction that is always guiding us into a more authentic relationship with you. We love you this morning and commit to you everything that we are, everything that we have and everything that we ever hope to be in order that you would use our very lives today to reflect your love to a world that is desperately searching for you.
