Remember

Immediately Jesus made his disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of him to Bethsaida, while he dismissed the crowd. After leaving them, he went up on a mountainside to pray. When evening came, the boat was in the middle of the lake, and he was alone on land. He saw the disciples straining at the oars, because the wind was against them. About the fourth watch of the night he went out to them, walking on the lake. He was about to pass by them, but when they saw him walking on the lake, they thought he was a ghost. They cried out, because they all saw him and were terrified. Immediately he spoke to them and said, "Take courage! It is I. Don't be afraid." Then he climbed into the boat with them, and the wind died down. They were completely amazed, for they had not understood about the loaves; their hearts were hardened.

Mark 6:45-52

The early disciples had seen Jesus heal the sick and raise people from the dead and yet they could not understand how He could feed 5,000 people with five loaves of bread and a few fish. Even more amazing than that, at 3:00 in the morning or so, they saw Jesus walking on the water in the midst of a storm and didn’t recognize Him, they cried out to Him as He almost walked right by, not because they knew who He was, but only because they were deeply afraid. How often do we forget the miracles that God has performed in our lives, and in the midst of a difficult circumstance we discount the magnitude and power of the God that we serve? And how many times has Jesus been there to help us and encourage us in the midst of a storm and yet we don’t even see Him because our hearts are hard and our focus has turned from Jesus and serving Him to our circumstance or storm that we are facing. Jesus is walking on the water today, coming to you in the midst of the storm to calm your heart – do you see Him? He may be coming in the words of a friend or the love of a relative; He may be coming in the beauty of a sunset or through the calming splashes of the tide; He may be there already through the miracle of a baby’s laugh or the gentleness of another’s hand in yours – do you see Him? Do you remember how He has been there for you in the past; do you remember the miracles that He has already performed in your life? Cry out to Him this morning and He will turn your way, heal your broken heart and make you new.
