All Alone

43 Just as he was speaking, Judas, one of the Twelve, appeared. With him was a crowd armed with swords and clubs, sent from the chief priests, the teachers of the law, and the elders. 44 Now the betrayer had arranged a signal with them: "The one I kiss is the man; arrest him and lead him away under guard." 45 Going at once to Jesus, Judas said, "Rabbi!" and kissed him. 46 The men seized Jesus and arrested him. 47 Then one of those standing near drew his sword and struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his ear. 48 "Am I leading a rebellion," said Jesus, "that you have come out with swords and clubs to capture me? 49 Every day I was with you, teaching in the temple courts, and you did not arrest me. But the Scriptures must be fulfilled." 50 Then everyone deserted him and fled.
Mark 14:43-50

For many of you, I know that there times when you feel all alone in this world. For a number of you I understand that there are times when you feel like everyone has deserted you and you are left to struggle through these difficult times all alone. If this is you then please know this morning that Jesus has experienced that same pain and emptiness as He was betrayed by one of His closest friends and if that wasn’t bad enough, at a time when he needed His core group of friends the most they all deserted Him for fear of losing their lives. Paul tells us that as Christ followers we will be aliens and strangers in this fallen world as a result of our commitment to live a life that honors our Father in Heaven. Jesus, having experienced more pain and loneliness than you and I could ever imagine, can understand your feelings this morning as He has been there. He would tell you this morning that He is here to hold your hand today that He is here to be your friend as he guides you through this difficult time in your life in order that his love would shine through in the end. It is only in times of solitude and in the realization that you cannot do this life thing on your own that you will truly see God, know that He is real and experience His healing and transforming power and love! Cling to Jesus today with all of your heart and all of your soul and all of your mind and He will replace your emptiness with an unspeakable love and peace that will carry you through.
