Eloi, Eloi, Lema Sabachthani

33 At noon, darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon. 34 And at three in the afternoon Jesus cried out in a loud voice, "Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?" (which means "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?").
35 When some of those standing near heard this, they said, "Listen, he's calling Elijah."
36 Someone ran, filled a sponge with wine vinegar, put it on a staff, and offered it to Jesus to drink. "Now leave him alone. Let's see if Elijah comes to take him down," he said.
37 With a loud cry, Jesus breathed his last.

Mark 15:33-37

In order for our sins to be forgiven, Jesus had to take on the sin of the world and be put to death for the punishment of our sin. The worst part was having to be separated from God as God can not have any part of sin since He is holy and pure and perfect. How horrible that must have been and yet he did it out of love for me and love for you in order that we could once again be reunited with our Father in Heaven who wants nothing more from us than a relationship where He can love us and guide us and take all the bad and broken pieces of our lives and turn them around into something beautiful and good. In the end, this is what Thanksgiving is all about. As President Lincoln wrote on October 3rd, 1863:
“I do therefore invite my fellow citizens in every part of the United States, and also those who are at sea and those who are sojourning in foreign lands, to set apart and observe the last Thursday of November next, as a day of Thanksgiving and Praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the Heavens. And I recommend to them that while offering up the ascriptions justly due to Him for such singular deliverances and blessings, they do also, with humble penitence for our national perverseness and disobedience, commend to His tender care all those who have become widows, orphans, mourners or sufferers in the lamentable civil strife in which we are unavoidably engaged, and fervently implore the interposition of the Almighty Hand to heal the wounds of the nation and to restore it as soon as may be consistent with the Divine purposes to the full enjoyment of peace, harmony, tranquility and union.”

Be thankful this week for all that God has done for you, remember Jesus and the price that He paid in order that we all could be free to have a relationship once again with our Creator and Friend who loves us dearly and will never let us go!

May God bless you and your family as you give thanks to the King this holiday season.

Happy Thanksgiving!
